India after Gandhi

India after Gandhi is a book written by Ramachandra Guha. The main focus of the book is the series of events that took place after independence was achieved from British colonial rule.

I have recommended this book to everyone who is remotely interested in Indian history. History lessons taught in Indian school deals only with what happened in India till it got independence on Aug 15th 1947. I have completed reading four fifth of the book and boy, am I amazed. It is a mixture of pride and squimishness. When one thinks about the diversity in India, one can only be amazed how we have survived and continue to be one single nation. When I learnt the phrase unity in diversity back in middle school, I didn't quite think of the enormity. With my own experience of traveling to many parts of India, mostly in the south, it is so true.

India changes every 100 kms. There is something unique to every place that I have travelled to.

In less than two weeks I will complete one year being in the US. It is a totally different world out here. I have met people who didn't seem to know that Pakistan was once part of India. They always seem to be overwhelmed about the things they learn about Indians.

So life goes on ....

I have cut down on Facebook usage. I login once in a few days and I have deleted the Facebook app on my phone. I have kept the messenger though. I realized that I was spending way too much time on it. Facebook was a fascination that now has turned into an obsession. Before, it was the motivation to get in touch with friends, long lost or otherwise and to get a sense of what's happening with them, but now, it is just mindless scrolling.

These days, I think I could use less information about what everyone is eating, where everyone is going, what everyone bought and all sorts of information I really don't need.

I think the effect has been good so far. For example, after so many years I am posting in my blog. I could say, my mind is a lot free from what it used to be.

Play even in pain

play even i pain
ride even in rain
be in India or in Spain
efforts wont be in vain
dreams need not go in the drain
know that the dream is main
even if it is plain
failures are always a gain
dont you get drained

dream is like a grain
which gets sowed in your brain
dream all you want, dont ever refrain
coz remember the dream is main
success comes after failures, coz they are in a chain
genius is hard to contain
one day you will be acclaimed
act as if you have been ordained
for your life, you are the chieftain

i know it is a difficult terrain
at time you might be uncertain
there will be a lot of strain
your muscles might get a sprain
you may even have a chilblain
but always remember, ingorance/laziness is your biggest villain

You will find many who have birdbrain
to pull people down is their domain
they might think you are a crackbrain
they might even look at you in disdain
you dont have to explain
you dont have to restrain
the throne is your's to reattain

when you first try you may not obtain
on your face, let there be no tearstain
dont you complain
you may have to retrain
but you go back and try again

in order to attain
in order to sustain
you'll have to play even in pain!!!!

Bipin(Past and present)

Every depiction of the subject is totally intentional and is not just a mere coincidence.

Bipin. Our ever so friendly friend. Never knew of anyone who had any problem with him as such. Unarguably one of the most talented muggers of our batch. But mugging is not the only quality one would attribute to him. He managed to score a 92% or something in one of the sems of the first year and due to which he could maintain 80 above aggregate till the end of engineering, the aggregate which lesser mortals like us can only dream of. All in all a good friend. Working and hating his work and NetApp now.

But the intention of this blog is to bring out the ability for a amazing makeover over a period of time. Scroll down and see the metamorphosis.

Bipin(yeLsu) then,

Bipin trying to threaten Manju, the maikan.

Bipin shown his place
